looking to buy a juicer...

figured this was a great place to ask about one...

Never thought I'd want one, but I'm gonna give it a try. Anyway, Kohl's has one in their ad this week for $99.99. Sis in law has a take 30% off book, so that makes it $69.99. It is the Lack LaLanne Power Juicer (as seen on TV). Anyone use this one? Wondering if it strains well, has a decent filter, and easy to clean. Thanks for your input!

I've heard the Jack Lalane juicer is garbage. Some things you want to look for are ease of cleaning and strong motor.

I got this one as a Christmas gift this year. It's great:
Shop around and read reviews on Amazon. You can found the one you like and buy it elsewhere if you want.

My current (4th one) juicer is the Angel 3500.

I highly recommend it. All stainless steel, rugged, durable and produces a large amount of juice without heating it up. Quick, easy clean. What more can you ask??

Look around for a sub -1000 price on the web

Thanks for these ideas... I'm going to check them out. Hubby also asked a coworker who is into juicing. He recommended this one... http://www.omegajuicers.com/9000w.htm Anyone familiar with it? Thanks!

Stay away from the centrifugal force juicers. They spin so fast the juice tends to heat up. I had one and the juice can get downright hot. HEAT destroys the benefit(s) of the juice.

The masticating juicers are better as they spin at lower RPM's. I still recommend the Super Angel 3500 Stainless Steel Juicer, trust me on this one.

Re: looking to buy a juicer...

i have had several, and i mean several juices. from the professional Ruby juicer, to the masticating omega juicer, 2 jack lalanne's, several orange juices, ect.

i would have to say that the jack lalanne is not the best juicer in the world, obviously.
but it's definatly fine for home use and is well worth 70 bucks. if you want to spend 1600, get the Ruby Juicer. if you want to spend 800, get the norwalk. if you want to spend 400, get the greenstar or greenpower. if you want to spend 200, get the omega juicer. if you want to spend 70, get the juiceman.

i use one often.

I have owned 4 of them, I liked to juice carrots and within a week I burnt up the motors on all 4 of them, they replaced them 4 times for free but by the forth time I gave up on them.

IF you do get a JUICER, youre going to get what you pay for, as sad as it sounds the more expensive it is the better it will be.

I now use a 4.5 HORSEPOWER blender and blend everything in to a LIQUID, it is wonderful, it cost me 600 bucks but it was the best 600 bucks I have spent in years, this is no ordinary blender my friends, it will turn a leather boot in to liquid in SECONDS. It is an industrial blender and it is 4.5 horsepower which is about the same as a small BOAT MOTOR.

It is made by BLENDTECH but VITAMIX also makes them, the reason I like the BLENDER over the Juicer is because you still get some of the PULP and the PULP is very good for you plus it helps slow down the SUGAR in your blood when you juice fruits and things. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE this BLENDER gives you a LIQUID PRODUCT in SECONDS no matter what you BLEND, it is VERY MUCH a JUICER in every sense of the word but 100 TIMES BETTER.

All said and done I wouldnt trade this blender and the lifestyle it has offered me for anything.

Re: looking to buy a juicer...

I've got a Champion juicer and a Vitamix; between the 2, there's not a lot that can't be juiced in various ways.

I wouldn't spend less than $200 on a juicer... you'll end up burning the motor up and having to buy a new one. Will cost the same in the long run.....

Re: looking to buy a juicer...

It's my understanding that to kill the enzymes in fruit & veggies, they have to be heated above 110 degrees.

Do the centrifugal juicers get that hot?

Re: looking to buy a juicer...

I was about to order a Green Power Juicer last week but waited and picked up a Vita Mix first. I have it sitting on the counter and man does that sucker eat up carrots. Comes with a really nice recipe book also and makes my other blender there sitting next to it look pretty lame. I have had that old blender for years and it has served me well but it is like going from Fred Flintsones foot powered car to George Jetsons space cruiser on white lightning.

Will get the juicer later but this thing makes puree out of things and as thin as it is if you do not want the pulp it would probably strain out in fast order.

the twin gears are the best. They say the Vita Mix will heat up but you just need a few ice cubes in it and don't run it to long. No problem, Frozen Strawberry's.

did you replace each one of them 4 times ??? for a total of 16 juicers, or am i reading this wrong ??

you'd think that after the second time you would have learned your lesson.....

You actually have to run the Vitamix much longer than necessary to heat up your juice, but yeah, it can make fresh soup for you, too.

The good thing about having a juicer as well is that you can use the pulp to make breads and other dishes. Especially if you are trying to follow a raw food regime.

Does anyone know on average how many pounds of grapes it takes to make a gallon of juice?

Yea I want to get one. I know that Green Power is the one I want but I want to see it and take it apart before I buy it and so far I can only order it online so that is not possible. I want to look at it disassembled for cleaning and see where any weak parts may be.

I would spend the $70 and give it a try...it doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on a machine you don't even know if you will use frequently. I don't have Delane juicer, but I hear they are decent.

I have a Champion and a Turmix...Turmix is my favorite...available in Mexico, Swiss company.

I would probably purchase the Green Power now if I did not have a Champion already.

I like to take things apart, too, but there were so many appliances I wanted that I could not get locally, that I had to start trusting someone... the next best thing was to find a seller that would work with me if I needed to return anything. Good customer service is worth its weight in gold!

For the price, and based on the recommendations from others, I'd say you would probably be happy with the GP juicer.
